2012 Buoncristiani Malbec, Napa Valley
Malbec has been an important variety at Buoncristiani since the beginning, finding its way into our many vintages of Buoncristiani Cabernet Sauvignon and also playing an important role in our Buoncristiani O.P.C. In 2008 we started a new program to pay special homage to our favorite blender by keeping some separate. Due to the wine’s overwhelming popularity we proudly offer you this fifth release of Buoncristiani Malbec.
To ensure our highest standard of quality, we source this Malbec from vineyards managed with our same strict viticultural philosophy. The 2012 blend was handcrafted from small lots harvested exclusively from ultra premium Hillside blocks in the Eastern Vaca Mountain range.
Expect to find a dark purple color, intense black and blueberries, white pepper spice, violets, vanilla, toasty French oak, white chocolate, a broad mid palate with balanced acidity, depth of flavor, and a fleshy sexy round finish.
Varietal: 100% Malbec
Harvest Dates: October 18 through October 26, 2012
Aging: 20 months in French oak barrels, 75% new French oak
Cases Handcrafted: 250
There are 250 cases of the 2012 Malbec. Normally, California Malbec loses in a competition with the best produced in Argentina, but Buoncristiani Family Winery has hit pay-dirt with this beauty. It possesses a dense ruby/purple color as well as lots of blue and black fruits, soft tannins and plenty of character and personality. This beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 7-8 years. The fruit all comes from Vaca Mountain hillside vineyards on the east side of Napa. – Robert Parker October 2014
