TASTING NOTES: Glistening, golden brilliance in a glass, the 2012 Los Carneros Chardonnay displays great vintage expressions in hue, aroma and taste. Alluring aromas of Meyer lemon, honeydew melon, orange peel, Asian pear with hints of wax, cinnamon and nutmeg lead to a round, rich palate. Bright and silky smooth, this Chardonnay shows flavors of lemon peel, dried spices, honey-lemon, intermingled with custard and Crème Brule. This wine is rich and concentrated in structure with an elegant soft, layered texture with a luscious, long finish…harmony in a glass.
HARVEST & VINEYARD: Named after the color of the soil, Tierra Blanca, this vineyard rests under the blanket of Mother Nature’s cool climate. The 2012 growing season for Chardonnay was ideal in every way. Gentle winter rains left just enough ground water for the vines to establish a moderate canopy that allowed just the right amount of sunlight to reach each cluster. Moderate daytime temperatures and cool nights from spring to late summer resulted in slow maturation, allowing the fruit to develop superb complexity while retaining bright acidity.
FOOD PAIRING: This pairs beautifully with a wide range of cheeses, from aged Gouda to Farmstead Cheddar. It’s also delicious with savory tarts and salads. For a main course, consider shellfish, Petrale sole with lemon and capers or a pork chop seared in a bit of butter.
