2015 Lagniappe Peak Vineyards Jazzie Sauvignon Blanc, Rutherford

Our Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the Dalla Gasparina vineyard, located in the Rutherford AVA in Napa Valley. Jazzie is named after our beloved Papillon and, like its namesake, is elegant, easy to love and, in our minds, best in breed.
Pale straw color with a vibrant greenish tinge; on the nose, it is packed with lovely melon and tropical fruit notes, with undertones of fleshy grapefruit aromas. This is a crisp and focused wine with refreshing acidity that envelops the tropical fruit flavors with a subtle floral note; enhancing the complex mouthfeel through to the finish.

Although Napa Valley received nearly 75% of normal precipitation for the year, the relatively dry and warm winter resulted in small clusters of grapes with highly concentrated flavors. Early bud break gave way to a cool spring with a long flowering period followed by somewhat uneven fruit set. Temperatures throughout the growing season were even and warm, although a surge of hot temperatures in the final weeks of harvest brought things to a quick conclusion.
Our Sauvignon Blanc was harvested on August 18, 2015.

Our fruit was whole cluster pressed; and then allowed to settle for 48 hours prior to moving into neutral barrels. Fermentation to dryness then occurred over the next 4 weeks. The wine was allowed to age in the barrels for another 7 months; and was stirred monthly to achieve incredible richness. We avoided malolactic fermentation to
retain natural acidity; resulting in crisp freshness.

Food Pairings
With our New Orleans background, we immediately think of seafood when we open a bottle of Jazzie. We enjoy crab cakes with a remoulade sauce or grilled shrimp shared in a backyard barbecue with friends. Sauvignon Blanc is also a classic pairing with raw oysters or a delicate white fish like Dover or Petrale sole. We also tend organic gardens here at Lagniappe Peak, so fresh vegetables are a staple through much of the year. We like grilled asparagus, zucchini or artichokes with a crisp bottle of Jazzie. We find it also pairs well with fresh summer salads featuring stone fruit, such as peaches or nectarines. Green salads are also a staple; although we prefer mild dressings, such as a light vinaigrette. Jazzie is a perfect accompaniment for a quick pasta dinner served with a fresh pesto sauce. We also pair our Sauvignon Blanc with mild white cheese; we think it matches perfectly with goat cheese from our sister valley of Sonoma.
