Winemaking Notes-
Phelan Vineyard is located on the western slope of Mt. George in the southeastern part of Napa Valley. Elevation is 1,100 feet above the valley floor providing additional sunlight above the morning fog and cool evenings. This results in a slower ripering and more extended period of
maturation providing intense fruit flavors. The Winemaker is Bob Egelhoff, whose clients include David Arthur, Axios, Amizetta and Richard Partridge. Founded and developed by Arlene and Gerry Phelan, this rocky hillside vineyard is devoted exclusively to premium Cabernet Sauvignon. The first block was planted in the spring of 1991 on 3309 rootstock bench grafted to clone #7. Two additional blocks were added in subsequent years wherein rootstock 110R field budded to clone #337, was selected. The fruit for the Phelan Cabernet Sauvignon is picked exclusively from this estate vineyard. For eight years the fruit was sold to three Napa Valley premium wineries, in the summer of 1999, following harvest, the Phelans decided to enter the wine business.
Tasting Notes-
Winemaker Bob Egelhoff writes: Rich deep, magenta color. Alluring aromas of black cherry, caramel and sweet toasty oak. Upon tasting, this elegant wine exhibits a full, yet velvety mouthfeel with dense, jammy plum flavors and hints of blueberries and chocolate on the long finish.
