***THIS IS A MAGNUM-SIZED BOTTLE (1.5L)***
This flashy and gorgeous wine, featuring fruit from the acclaimed Unti Vineyard, is characterized by sharp spiciness, plush fruit, and soul-satisfying earthiness. A perfect growing season that produced long warm to hot days and cool evenings brought this Syrah harvest to a close in early October.
The use of new oak in aging the Longfellow Syrahs has become the backbone of the wine. Utilizing primarily brand new French and American oak as well as one year old French oak, Longfellow's winemaking team--led by Rolando Herrera of Mi Sueño--is able to add the subtle layers of sweet toastiness that you will enjoy. The goal at Longfellow is to make unique wines, but ones that are true to their varietal heritage. The 2004 Syrah is once again an exquisite example of achieving this goal.
Tasting notes from Winemaker Rolando Herrera:
“This wine begs to be decanted. Deep ruby color lead to spicy aromas or white pepper, paraffin, and smoked meats. A blast of lush and ripe dark cherry fruit give way to rich flavors of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla scented oak. Supple tannins provide shelter for its long and distinctive finish”
