The Sangiacomo family, renowned for their quality and respected by the winemakers who purchase their fruit, is now in its third generation of producing wine grapes in Sonoma. This wine comes from their "El Novillero (an apprentice bullfighter) Vineyard", which sits on a wind-swept, east-facing hillside above the vast reaches of the Sangiacomo property. The soils are reddish-brown mixture of rocky sedimentary clays and loams, which lend some depth to the typically heady aromatics of the Dijon 115 clones. Cool, marine winds sweeping across the hills from the San Pablo Bay keep both vigor and yields low.
Tasting notes from Proprietor & Winemaker Ken Bernards: "The nose is rich with black cherry, slate, mushrooms, and green tea. The palate begins with an emphasis on red fruits, especially baked cherries, cranberries, and strawberries, then lengthens into a finish of dried fruits, green tea, and tobacco, with a finishing nose of dried flowers and clove. A soft, textural wine to be enjoyed in its youth."
