The Las Bonitas Zinfandel comes from the wonderful Shake Ridge Vineyard in Amador County. The organic-and-biodynamically-farmed vineyard bears the legacy of four generations of citrus growers from Southern California; the Kraemer Family has found a new home in the Sierra Foothills to carry on its farming tradition. The Shake Ridge Ranch is a beautiful, secluded location in Amador County, east of the old mining town Sutter Creek, with rocky soil full of potential and history. Italian immigrants originally settled the land in the 1870s; though missing the gold rush, they used the land to raise cattle and cleared sections for orchards, vegetables, olives and the first wine grapes on the property.
Tasting notes from Proprietor Garret Murphy: “This delicious Zinfandel is from a hillside vineyard with decomposed granite soils and perennially-low yields. This wine, crafted by Ken Bernards (Ancien, Domaine Carneros, Richard Perry), has ripe plum, wild blackberry and dark cherry aromas. The dark and purplish color was achieved by adding a little Petite Sirah which also made it a little more angular for aging ability. Enjoy it with grilled lamb, spicy sausages and all kinds of cheeses.”
Varietal Composition: 76% Zinfandel, 24% Petite Sirah
Total production: 199 cases
Aging potential: 8 – 10 years
