The Showket “Asante Sana” is a Super-Tuscan blend of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon all grown on the Showket estate in Oakville. “Asante sana” means “Thank you very much” in Swahili and is a project dear to the Showkets’ hearts. Developed from their love affair with Africa, the 2004 vintage’s leopard watermark was the beginning of the “wild animal” labels. Each subsequent vintage will feature a different animal native to the continent from which Life began.
Tasting notes from proprietor Kal Showket: ”The 2006 Showket Vineyards ‘Asante Sana’ shows vibrant violet and berry aromas with hints of spice that build in the glass. It has an initial grip that speaks to Sangiovese, but the finish is all about Cabernet Sauvignon which gives it a full-bodied texture and long finish. On the palate, the wine has minerality reminiscent of a great Brunello. Like its Italian ancestors, it has rich velvety tannins and vibrant textures that make it a fabulous wine to pair with a wide range of cuisines from grilled meats to delicate pastas and sea food. This wine will drink beautifully on release and continue to gain complexity for many years to come.”
