The fruit for Mi Sueño's Syrah comes from two vineyards in the Coombsville district just southeast of the city of Napa. These vineyards differ from each other in many ways, and the grapes harvested from them complement each other beautifully.
The Que Syrah Vineyard is planted with tightly-spaced rows on a steep hillside with shallow soils, forcing the vines to compete for limited available nutrients. The result is grapes that make wine with crisp acidity, firm tannins, and good complexity. The Reichow Vineyard is located on the Napa Valley floor. The vines also enjoy a more spacious planting pattern, which produces fruit with rich, supple flavors and a smooth mouthfeel. Together, the grapes from these two vineyards yield a wine that erupts with exotic flavors and has a classic structure.
Tasting notes from Owner & Winemaker Rolando Herrera: “True to its variety, this wine is full of luscious black fruit, roasted espresso, graphite and fresh forest floor. While unmistakably full-bodied and possessing tremendous structure, it maintains its balance with nicely refined tannins, well-integrated toasty oak and a vibrant acidity. Unabashedly, this wine strives to capture the essence of an 'Old World' Northern Rhone while reveling in the abundance that a 'New World' region like Coombsville has to offer.”
