Caldwell Vineyard sits 500 feet above sea level giving panoramic
views of Napa Valley, Mayacamas and Vaca Ranges. Grapes were first
planted at the Caldwell site in 1982 with cuttings brought into the
country using "creative" means. (That means they were smuggled in!) The weather at Caldwell Vineyards has a lot of similarities to its neighboring AVA, Carneros.
This wine SCREAMS for leg of lamb! Nice and rare on the inside, crispy on the outside. Also works well with beef ribs, veal, venison, or even rabbit stew. Try duck raviolinis in a crème sauce. Any strong cheese, such as Roquefort, pairs well, too.
Tasting notes from Proprietor & Winemaker Jeff Cohn: "The aromatics of this wine showcase its mountain
terroir; graphite minerality and roasted earth components intertwine
themselves with blackberry preserves and floral elements. The palate
receives a lush explosion of black fruit, building up in intensity to
become a well-structured wine with a mineral backbone that slowly
shifts to crème brulée on the finish."
