The Krupp family began developing the now-renowned Stagecoach Vineyard in 1995 with the help of a few longtime friends. The entire property consists of 1,200+ acres of rocky, volcanic terroir stretching from the western-most regions of the Atlas Peak District all the way to the east overlooking Oakville, gracing the southern edge of Pritchard Hill. There are over 500 acres planted, making it the largest contiguous mountain planting in the Napa Valley. Dr. Jan Krupp's task was labeled initially by local experts as insurmountable. Soon after planting, however, began many of Napa's most successful wineries and winemakers lining up to buy fruit from Stagecoach. Today over 50 vintners craft incredible wines from the doctor's validated endeavors. The fruit continuously impresses all comers with the character and complexity found in these mountain grapes.
A wine that is not as intensely aromatic as Viognier, Marsanne is very easy to match up with all types of food due to it
richness and sense of minerality. Try spicy Chinese or Thai. Lobster is
perfect, also wild mushrooms--this wine is begging for foods in heavy
crème sauces that have touches of truffles. With age, great with wild
game birds.
Tasting notes from Proprietor & Winemaker Jeff Cohn: "Spiced pineapple and coconut crème are intertwined with wet stone, orange blossom and sweet butter. On the palate the wine is viscous and opulent, but carries itself elegantly through the finish. This is classic Marsanne, with flavors of orange blossom, apricots and peaches that are highlighted by honeysuckle, candle wax, bitter almond and hints of clover."
