Longfellow continued its long-standing relationship with the acclaimed Unti Vineyards in Sonoma County. Unti Vineyards, well-known for their uncompromised farming practices, especially with Rhone varietals, is located in the heart of the Dry Creek Valley right outside the town of Healdsburg. Since the beginning of Longfellow’s Syrah program, they have worked very closely with the Untis to dial in the optimal farming practices for their vineyard blocks. The ‘06 syrah was harvested with the same vineyard block strategy as in previous years: bringing in fruit from two distinct blocks near the front of the vineyard away from the Dry Creek which runs along the vineyard’s backside. These two blocks are comprised of shorter rows and hence, more even ripeness throughout. Adding much more complexity of flavor to the final product.
Tasting notes from Winemaker Rolando Herrera: "Teeth-staining purple color and deep concentration lead to Shiraz-like aromas of menthol, anise, and a hint of white pepper. Plush dark cherry fruit and rich earthy flavors finish with a touch of game, coffee, and sweet oak. Mouth-coating tannins lend elegance and richness through its long and generous finish."
