***THIS IS A JEROBOAM-SIZED BOTTLE (4.5L)***
Richard and Sheila Perry planted their first vineyard in 1988 on their 20-acre ranch. This hillside vineyard is located in the Coombsville area in the foothills of Mt. George, part of the Vaca Mountain range. Its steep rolling hills required creative terracing done by Richard himself. Now, about 15 acres of vines are planted, mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Syrah and Merlot. This 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from the Napa Valley Estate vineyard. Soils are volcanic in origin with areas of ash and rocky outcroppings. Two distinct soil types exist: white volcanic ash and rocky, red volcanic deposits.
Tasting Notes from Winemaker Ken Bernards: “Raspberry, cassis and blackberry aromas are underlaid by currant, cinnamon, pencil shavings/cedar. The aromas are echoed on the opulent & densely-flavored palate with beautiful structure framed by fine grain tannins. As the wine opens in the glass, layers continue to unfold, with nuances of hazelnuts and blueberry reduction. Nice brightness and acidity finish a beautiful wine that is deftly balanced between power and elegance.”
