The Lamborn Family is pleased to introduce the twenty-fifth release of their Howell Mountain Zinfandel. The vintage of 2007 was one boring year in the vineyards—and how lucky Lamborn was! Right on schedule, mid-March, bud break began. The usual spring showers came and went without incident. A very warm but consistent summer would move the fruit through veraison and into ripeness smoothly and promptly. Vineyard production can go through interesting and sometimes unexplainable cycles, and 2007 was one of those years. Lamborn performs two green harvests a year, and then drop crop during veraison each vintage. Once those tasks were completed, the remaining crop was just under eight tons (about 30% below average). With less fruit to deal with, the vines produced complete ripeness by September 1st, a little early for hillside Zinfandel, thus confirming the suspicions that 2007 may be the vintage of the decade!
Tasting notes from Winemaker Heidi Barrett: "The nose immediately opens up to rich fruit, white pepper, and hints of cake batter. The medium toast American Oak cooperage accentuates the fruit on the palate, giving rise to juicy and mouth-filling blueberry, dark cherry, caramel apple, and a dash of sweet cream. The prototypical Lamborn white pepper and spice characters balance themselves with a zest of acidity. One sip of this Howell Mountain Zinfandel lasts for minutes—Delicious!”
