Partners Joey Wolosz, Jeff Durham and Scott Tracy started Poem Cellars to create wine for the table, wine that can be paired with food….the “Marriage” of wine and food. With this goal in mind, the partners hired up-and-coming talented winemaker Jason Moore (Modus Operandi, Troubadour), who was inspired by their vision and focus on crafting blends of quality and value. Every decision throughout the winemaking processes, from harvest to bottling, is made to ensure that Poem Cellars’ wines are crafted to be an elegant companion to food. The wines are not made in a big, bold, tannic, heavily oaked style often found in Napa Valley Cabernets. Instead, they show restraint which adds to their complexity, elegance, refinement and sense of femininity.
Sourced from the Rutherford Bench comes this predominately-Cab blend with a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot to round out the flavors. The partnership of Durham, Wolosz, and Tracy has produced another outstanding Napa Valley red that oozes richness with finesse to boot. The “Marriage” shows their level of commitment (get it?) for producing great wine. With barely 8 barrels produced, time is of the essence with this offering.
Poem Cellars wines are meant to be shared when people celebrate their lives.
Tasting notes from Winemaker Jason Moore: “The nose is evocative with ripe red fruits, black plum, roasted black fruits, Christmas spices and herbal notes. On the tongue, red and blue fruits, cherry cough syrup, bitter chocolate, eucalyptus and pine needle with a whisper of licorice. Dusty earth, tobacco leaf and leather notes…medium-plus body and the tannins are moderate but persistent. Muscular in the sense that is has great power, but there is grace here as well. The tannins have a bit of grittiness that calls for aging.”
Varietal Composition: 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5% Cabernet Franc, .5% Petite Verdot
Total Production: 186 cases produced
